About mckensie
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN YOUR PROFESSION?
I have worked in this profession since 2016, in various settings throughout the past 9 years. My experience has included working in schools, in integrated healthcare settings, and in private practice.
WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE A CAREER IN this field?
I was a client before I was a therapist. Therapy changed my life from an early age and helped to nurture and heal my heart. My own experiences within this field as a client motivated me to choose this career as a professional. I wanted to dedicate myself to the field that allowed me to embrace my own life.
WHAT concerns do you like working with the most?
I enjoy supporting individuals navigating family estrangement, developing and maintaining healthy boundaries, anxiety, relationship concerns, and adjustment disorders. I also work with those experiencing grief and loss, as well as individuals who are healing from a neglectful or disconnected relationship with themselves.
What is your approach to therapy?
My therapeutic approach is collaborative, non-judgmental, and grounded in curiosity. Together, we will identify and work toward your goals in a way that feels supportive and authentic. I draw from relational, person-centered, emotionally focused, and cognitive behavioral therapies, while also integrating mindfulness and somatic practices to support healing.
WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL LIFE?
I have completed additional advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and in group and individual Critical Incident Response Team Programs. I most recently completed Advanced Suicide Prevention Intervention Training. I also serve as a Field Instructor to Master of Social Work students. This is a dynamic field, with research and best practices continuously evolving. Staying engaged in ongoing training and continuing education is essential to me, so I can offer the most current, evidence-informed care to those I work with.
