About mckensie

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN YOUR PROFESSION?

I have worked in this profession since 2016, in various settings throughout the past 10 years. My experience has included working in schools, in integrated healthcare settings, and in private practice.

WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE A CAREER IN this field?

I was a client before I was a therapist. Therapy changed my life from an early age and helped to nurture and heal my heart. My own experiences within this field as a client motivated me to choose this career as a professional. I wanted to dedicate myself to the field that allowed me to embrace my own life.

WHAT concerns do you like working with the most?

I enjoy supporting individuals who are navigating grief and loss, anxiety, ADHD, and major life transitions. I also enjoy working with clients on developing and maintaining healthy boundaries, addressing relationship concerns, and coping with significant life adjustments such as divorce. My goal is to help individuals gain insight, build resilience, and feel more confident navigating difficult emotions and changes.

What is your approach to therapy?

My therapeutic approach is collaborative, non-judgmental, and grounded in curiosity. Together, we will identify and work toward your goals in a way that feels supportive and authentic. I draw from relational, person-centered, emotionally focused, cognitive behavioral, and acceptance and commitment therapies, while also incorporating attachment-focused work. I integrate mindfulness and somatic practices to support deeper awareness, emotional regulation, and healing.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL LIFE?

I have completed additional advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Critical Incident Response Team programs for both group and individual interventions. Most recently, I completed Advanced Suicide Prevention Intervention Training. I also serve as a Field Instructor for Master of Social Work students.

This is a dynamic field where research and best practices continue to evolve. Staying engaged in ongoing training and continuing education is important to me so that I can provide the most current, evidence-informed care to the individuals I work with.
